I was washing dishes and reflecting as I prepare to take a new seat tomorrow. And it dawned on me, I am my mother’s legacy.
First and foremost my mother was the epitome of self-made.
Despite giving birth to me as a teenager, she resumed her education which gave her the tools necessary to be independent and successful.
Not only did she work hard, attending to patients up to the wee hours of the night, but also, she was resourceful in creating opportunities. If you didn't have the cash to pay for your medical bills - she would accept whatever commodity you had: maize, beans, etc.
My mother was generous with her resources and gave without discrimination to family and strangers.
She spoke her mind, without the need to be liked or loved.
She loved everything to look immaculate. Though, I don't miss the days we had to clean all walls and windows of the house for inspection 😁.
All in all, my mother was a queen who paddled her own canoe with all of us on board.
If you are a mother and reading this, know this to be true - you are setting an example of what your daughter will become. Knowingly or unknowingly.
Hence, shout out to my mother for raising a queen.
Mumy, thank you for being an excellent example. I would have never turned out the way I am if it wasn't for your character that I adapted and the discipline you instilled in me.
And, as for you my dear reader, the end is yours to write. 💕
