Once you immerse yourself in the world of colors, you’ll find that you tend to muse. For instance, what is the beige to you?
One of the most daunting experiences in branding is deciding what colors to use for your brand. The possibilities are endless. You see potential in color patterns now. There are blues so deep that they will make you think of coral reefs and the ocean on a sunny day. And then there are reds so captivating it fills you with the unmistakable adrenaline rush of passion.
Colors are the ultimate form of expression. Give me red bottoms, red lipstick, and a red dress, and watch me set the world on fire to douse it with the sunset hues over the ocean.
Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start this story at the beginning.
My first encounter with nudes was when my sister was visiting. We were strolling down the promenade in Santa Monica, not a care in the world, skins out sipping on sunshine when we stumbled upon this furniture store that had such fabulous decor.
“I love nudes,” She dazedly whispered.
She caught me by surprise, she never made me aware of this new little love affair with this color, so I asked, “What is nude to you?”
She had the most pleasant smile plastered on her face when she answered, “They give me that warm, earthy, natural feeling. I feel like it grounds me.” And just like that, I had an epiphany. Nude, the nondescript shade of brown. Of flesh and nakedness. It was suddenly brilliant to me. And that is the day I fell in love with nudes.
But what is nakedness? Is it perhaps only physical? The removal of clothing, Or could it be mental and emotional? An unraveling, an uncovering of one’s thoughts and feelings. A bearing of one’s soul to the public. Of the two, which one scares you more? In my opinion, to give away to the public the contents of your mind, heart, and soul is more daunting. It is asking for more than most are willing to give. Often, our thoughts and feelings originate from an experience we once had. The ones that affect us the most and stay with us the longest arise from personal experiences.
A child is only born with the fear of falling and loud noise, so why do certain events and situations trigger certain emotions? And why do we believe in the things we do? Why do you prefer some colors to others? At certain moments in life, we all experience an unfurling. You start asking yourself a complicated question that has never been answered for ages.
Who am I?
You are a colorful being. Your life is your canvas, and your story is the ink. What color is the ink?
Do you have a specific reason why that is your color?
My color is beige-nude.
I want to be candid with my feelings regarding the path I have endured. To speak of things that have shaped me. I want to own the mistakes that I have made- which, quite frankly- aren’t too many because I have always danced to the beats of my tune. I want to share my thoughts, experiences, memories, emotions, tendencies, beliefs, mannerisms—all of it with you.
Opening yourself up to others can be highly vulnerable. Yet, it is a necessary process for defining who you are and building your brand.
So what is beige to you?
